What’s in a name?
Jim July 10th, 2007
Here we have the final, run-off poll to determine the name of my boat. You’ll notice two new names:
Temerity (tuh-MER-uh-tee) is an English word which means something like “unreasonable or foolhardy contempt of danger”. I think it has both a feminine and nautical ring to it, plus the meaning is pretty great. It gets my vote.
The Vigilante was a suggestion by Steve. I always thought the etymology of the word had something to do with love, but I’m not finding that anywhere. Maybe I’m just thinking of that crappy band …
(Again, poll results update every hour.)

Actually, I think it should be the “H.M.S. Temerity.” Talk about nautically feminine…
Hey Jim!
I saw your blog bookmark in on my http://del.icio.us links and thought I would stop by to see the finished product. Instead I was greeted with this poll. The I read down further and see that you are behind schedule. What have you been doing! Quit sleeping in until noon and going to bed at 8:00pm and get that boat done! You haven’t been to work in a few weeks, so what is the hold up? This thing should be finished by now.
Also, I think your poll is a little skewed, since you only really gave us one option to choose and you told us which one to choose by telling us which one you like and the whole background behind it. I voted for “Temerity” but I feel like I somehow was subliminally told to vote for it.
I vote for a re-vote and more name options.
Glad to hear you are doing well and hopefully you will be breaking a bottle of champagne on the side of the boat before too long.
Take care,
Chris (cnc137)
